The 2024 Serpent Lake Classic will be held on January 27th, 2024, from 11am – 4pm.

This email contains all the details you’ll need for the boot hockey tournament.

Tournament Details:

  • Saturday, January 27th.
  • Opening Ceremonies at 11:00amsharp.
    • Anticipating games will go until 4pm-ish. Party might go well past that.
  • Arrive anytime after 10:00am.
    • Parking will be available at the house and across the street.
  • Food (turkey chili) and snacks will be provided, but you are welcome to bring anything to contribute if you’d like.
  • BYOB.

House address is:

21432 Beach Road

Deerwood, MN 56444

Game Essentials:

  • Teams playing for glory and the Serpent Lake Cup.
  • Double elimination.
  • Games are 3v3 players. No goalies.
  • 15 minute runtime.
  • Max of 4 players per team. Pick your 3 to play that game before the ball drops.
  • Ties go to 3 minute overtime, followed by shots from center ice, best of 3 shots.
  • Penalties (honor style) will result in pause of play, and change of possession with the penalized team going back over center ice.
  • 3″ inflatable soft rubber pond hockey ball (same as last year)
  • Official USA pond hockey nets

Equipment:

  • Sticks will be provided as needed (we’ve got 7 right handed and 2 left handed).
  • Welcome to bring/use your own hockey stick.
  • Boot hockey, so you just need to wear a pair of hikers or winter boots. It is highly suggested to wear a set of clamp-ons/icetrax if you have them. We will have some spare sets available if needed.
  • Jerseys – wear ’em if you’ve got them!

Teams:

To submit your team, email me or text me with your team name and players names.

If it’ll be just you playing, that’s fine too! We will place extra players on teams to fill out rosters and balance things out.

The tournament is open invite. If you have friends that would also like to play or submit a team, please let me know. The more teams and the more players the better.

The Fun Stuff:

  • Two fish shacks and one garage will be set up as the bar and warming houses.
  • There will be fans in the stands (no scouts though).
  • The outdoor fire pit will be lit.
  • We’ve got music, goal horns, national anthems, and everything you’d expect from a prestigious tournament such as this

Updates for this year:

Depending on the number of teams, we may set up two rinks to have games playing in tandem.

We will have a “who’s up next” schedule set-up for those who do not know how to use a website.

The defending champions, the Hat Trick Swayze’s, will be returning to this year’s tournament (albeit without one of last years players) looking for the repeat!

Swag:

Many people are unhappy with the lack of swag available last year. I will place a group order in December for anyone that wants something.

Images of available swag can be seen here
